PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Supervise and coordinate grounds crews engaged in lawn care, to include cultural care of turf and plants, maintain regular schedule of all campus grounds maintenance and cleaning of hard scapes Maintain AISD grounds in an appearance of excellence to include, but not limited to: landscaping, mowing, trimming, pick up of trash and watering.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Certification / License:
Valid Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of landscape maintenance and related equipment, such as: riding and walk-behind mowers, weed eaters, vehicles with trailers, etc.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to assess safety conditions on site and take appropriate corrective action
Ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision
Demonstrated organizational, communication, customer service and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
General knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation
Detail oriented
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools;
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching;
Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to repair and/or move equipment and objects
Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals including herbicides and fertilizers, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours;
Mental Demands: Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress
Regular attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Experience:
Two years of lawn maintenance experience
One year experience in a leadership role in related field experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
On-site supervision of grounds crews involved with mowing lawns, seeding and sodding of laws, care of bed & plants, and application of fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.
Supervise assigned crews to perform manual labor in routine cleaning, mowing and watering of campuses.
Train newly hired grounds staff and retrain grounds staff on job performance requirements and expectations.
Assist in determining cultivation and lawn mowing schedules.
Provide truck and equipment security and assign tools and equipment
Maintain tools and equipment, coordinate supplies and make recommendations for needed supplies and equipment.
Perform daily inspection and cleaning of assigned equipment.
Report maintenance problems that are observed which may or may not be covered by the craft.
Perform accurate recordkeeping associated with work orders.
Perform manual labor in maintaining lawns, landscape beds and cleaning of hard scapes.
Identify and report major grounds maintenance issues to the Grounds Crew Leader.
Aid in maintaining a proper watering schedule on all campuses
Transport necessary equipment to various job sites.
Assist Grounds Foreman in daily activities.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations, and local board policy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Grounds Crew including but not limited to landscapers and mowing crew.
